How FuelBrowse works
Most Australian states require fuel retailers to report every price change to the government, usually within 30 minutes. Those governments publish the prices through official data feeds. FuelBrowse reads those feeds every few minutes and puts every servo on one map.
What the colours mean
Each price is compared with the same fuel at other servos in the same state. Green tiles are among the cheapest fifth, red among the dearest fifth. Comparing within a state keeps the colours fair, because average prices differ between states.
Price cycles
In Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, unleaded prices rise sharply every few weeks (every week in Perth) and then fall slowly. We track the daily average in each city and show where it sits between its recent low and high. Diesel and regional prices usually don’t cycle.
How fresh is it?
- NSW, Tasmania, Queensland and South Australia: within minutes of the retailer’s report.
- Western Australia: prices are fixed for 24 hours from 6 am, and tomorrow’s prices are published at 2:30 pm.
- Victoria: the state publishes prices about 24 hours after they change.
- ACT and Northern Territory: no official live feed is available yet.
Always check the price on the pump before you fill up. See data sources and licences.
